Wow, wish I was still in the Pacific Northwest (lived in Portland in another life). I would make the trip north for this one. We have been fighting the EE performance fight for a while. Rolled our own form of static caching for some template partials and use Varnish for other stuff. Would love to chat sometime about strategies and out site if you have the time.
